Jack Catterall Labels Arnold Barboza Jr. a ‘B-Level Fighter’ Ahead of WBO

Jack Catterall, boasting an impressive 30-1 record with 13 KOs, is laser-focused on fulfilling his dream of becoming a world champion. The British southpaw is set to face the undefeated Arnold Barboza Jr. (31-0, 11 KOs) for the WBO Interim title on February 15 at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena. However, Catterall has made it clear he doesn’t view his opponent as a major threat, labeling him a “B-level fighter.”

Catterall’s Road to Redemption

Catterall is no stranger to adversity. His controversial split-decision loss to Josh Taylor in 2022 for the undisputed super-lightweight title left many fans and analysts questioning the decision. Rather than dwelling on that heartbreak, Catterall bounced back with four consecutive unanimous decision victories, including a decisive win in his rematch against Taylor, which silenced critics and showcased his resilience.

On the other hand, Arnold Barboza Jr. enters this fight with an undefeated record but has yet to face a 12-round contest. While Barboza showed promise in his victory over former world champion Jose Ramirez, his controversial win against Sean McComb last April has led some to question his championship pedigree.

Catterall’s Bold Prediction

When asked about Barboza’s chances, Catterall confidently dismissed the idea of his opponent lasting until the championship rounds. “I don’t think that he is going to see the championship rounds,” Catterall declared. “Arnold is a good fighter; I think that he is a B-level fighter. He does the basics well, but I’ve studied his fights thoroughly. There’s little adaptability, and I’ve noticed frustration in his corner along with some questionable advice. I believe I’ll beat him, and I’ll do it comfortably.”

While Catterall acknowledged that Barboza is strong and fit, he firmly stated that the Californian’s efforts to “upset the odds” would fall short.

Barboza’s Response

Barboza isn’t fazed by the criticism. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, he defended his conditioning and assured fans of his ability to handle a 12-round fight. “If you look at my last fights, my conditioning is never a problem. I train at altitude for a reason. We’ll see how it goes, but I’m confident.”
