Demetrious Johnson Reveals Why He Considers Renato Moicano a ‘Tougher Fight’ for Islam Makhachev At UFC 311
Demetrious Johnson has weighed in on the unexpected UFC 311 shakeup and thinks fans might be in for a more thrilling fight. The main event was originally set to feature Islam Makhachev against Arman Tsarukyan, but an injury sidelined Tsarukyan. Stepping in on short notice, Renato Moicano brings a different kind of challenge, one that Johnson finds even more intriguing.
Why Moicano Is a Bigger Threat
“Somebody from the Mighty team was like this card is worse. I don’t think it is,” Johnson shared on his YouTube channel. “I think it’s a better fight, here’s a reason why.”
Moicano’s addition to the bout introduces a wild card. Known for his unpredictable style and fearlessness, Moicano could push Makhachev in ways Tsarukyan might not have. Johnson highlighted Moicano’s recent momentum and his ability to adapt to high-pressure situations.
“You look at what ‘Money’ Moicano has done recently, he is on a terror because the man can’t afford to lose,” Johnson explained. “I think it’s a tougher fight for Islam Makhachev. The reason is because, one, you have to do it within 24 hours. You have no idea what the game plan’s going to be. The whole thing changes, but you know both those guys are well-rounded.”
While Makhachev is widely regarded as the pound-for-pound best, Moicano’s aggressive striking and versatile skills make him a serious threat.
“Isam Makhachev is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. So he can fight anybody on any given day. But you do have to make some adjustments because the way that [Moicano] fights compared to what Arman does is different,” Johnson noted.
What to Expect from UFC 311
For fans, this unexpected pairing means the potential for chaos. Johnson summed up why this fight excites him:
“I think it’s a better fight. I think it’s a tougher fight for Islam Makhachev. I feel Moicano is way more dangerous than Arman. He’s a f*cking dog, he’s gonna bring a dog fight.”
With the unpredictable nature of short-notice fights and Moicano’s fearless approach, UFC 311 could deliver a main event that keeps everyone on the edge of their seats.
