The Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was MotorTrend’s 1987 Car of the Year. This example is finished in Silver Clearcoat Metallic (14) and features a revised Turbo-specific front fascia, dual intercooler hood scoops, automatic headlights, front cornering lights, a keyless entry pad, a retractable antenna, and dual side mirrors. Imperfections are pointed out in the gallery below.
The 16″ aluminum wheels are mounted with 225/50 Goodyear Integrity tires. The car is equipped with an Automatic Ride Control suspension, which was a first for a US manufacturer. The selling dealer notes that the “Firm” light on the suspension switch does not illuminate when pressed. Stopping is provided by power-assisted four-wheel discs with ABS.
The power-adjustable front seats and the rear bench are upholstered in Scarlet Red cloth. Amenities include a cassette stereo, a graphic equalizer, power windows, power locks, cruise control, and automatic climate control.
The two-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and fronts a 95-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 37k miles, a couple of which were added under current ownership.
The turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four was factory rated at 190 horsepower. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip differential.
A copy of the window sticker lists factory equipment, colors, and options as well as a total price of $19,581.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage.
